How do you feel about the fact that our tax payers money will be spent on military equipment and hardware? This amount will be dictated to us by the EDA European Defence Agency. When we don´t have enough money for hospitals or education for our children. Your party want a yes vote for lisbon. By voting yes you are voting for the EDA. .. The EDA is a central part of the Lisbon treaty...
Hospitals NOT Helicopters I say.
What is your stance on the EDA?

Question from
I would like to know your views on the Liberalisation of the Postal Service, which is due to happen in January 2011.
Will you work to ensure quality postal services in Ireland and do you recognise the vital role played by An Post in delivering the Universal Service Obligation(USO)?
Will you work to ensure appropiate financial support in order to maintain the USO, but not at a cost to the taxpayer given that An Post is currently run without government support?
Finally, will you demonstrate that postal services should provide important, decent and stable jobs that have to be protected even in times of liberalisation and financial crisis?

I dON´T UNDERSTAND WHY YOU AREN´T STANDING IN THE dUBLIN cENTRAL BYE ELECTION AS THE ORIGINAL IDEA WAS TO HAVE YOU IN FOURTH PLACE OR BETTER FOR 2012 SO A FIFTH PLACE EVEN NOW AND MORE LIKELY THAN BEFORE WOULD CLEARLY INDICATE GROWTH AND DEVELOPMENT IN THE WAY THAT WAS ORIGINALLY ENVISAGED BACK IN 2003 WHEN YOU WERE FIRST CONSIDERED FOR THE SWITCH. MEP´S CAN NOW BE CO-OPTED IF NEED BE AND OYU WOULD BE UNLIKELY TO WIN THE BYE ELECTION BUT IT WOULD BE CRAZY TO REVERSE BACK NOW AND THEN TRY AGAIN LATER.

a chara,
Thank you for your query. Sinn Fein believes the mood for political change is palpable and Republican politics have never been so relevant.
There is no confidence, whatsoever that Fianna Fáil and the Greens can turn the economy around. Now is the time for people to assert themselves and send the government a strong message. Now is the time for real change.
Christy Burke has been a fearless voice for downtrodden and neglected communities in Dublin for decades. A founder member of the Concerned Parents Against Drugs, Christy drew state and media attention to the threat drugs posed to society when the government did nothing about the problem. One of the city´s hardest working public representative, Christy´s tireless campaigning, with others, resulted in long-overdue improvements to Dickensian housing conditions in the inner city.
Now, the Government is seeking to make ordinary people pay the price for their destruction of the economy. Fine Gael offers no real alternative. Its policies will also damage the interests of working families.
There is a choice in this election though. Sinn Féin represents an alternative type of politics. In the Dáil, Christy Burke will be a fearless voice for the people of Dublin Central.
Is mise le meas,
Mary Lou McDonald MEP.

First and foremost I want to wish you the best of luck, I am very interested in your policies so will be very curious as to how you answer.
In this current climate, people´s main worries are jobs. I believe that our government are not supporting home grown businesses, therefore we are over reliant on foreign companies who will not locate here because of our phenomenal cost structure, Do you plan to promote Ireland´s economy and it´s workforce? If so, How?

, A Chara,
Thanks for your good wishes.
I agree that the main priority for people at this time is jobs. The same cannot be said for the Fianna Fail - Green government.
Ireland cannot cut its way out of this recession. What is required is stimulus and measures that bolster ´the real economy´ and jobs
We need proactive interventions to save and create jobs. There is a pressing need to support SMEs and indiginous enterprise - for a start the banks must free up credit to small business.
Sinn Fein has produced a Job retention and creation plan, we were the first political party to do so.
